Compensator rating does not follow from installed kW alone. Final sizing depends on load profile, type of reactive power, power factor and installation parameters. The most reliable sizing is based on an energy invoice or a measurement.

A real measurement decides the sizing
In practice, measuring actual reactive power or analysing energy bills matters most. The same 50 kW facility may need 5 kVAr or 20 kVAr of compensation, depending on the equipment installed.
Compensator rating depends mainly on the active power of the facility, the type of loads (motors, welders, compressors, LED lighting, drives) and the current power factor (cos φ).
